One Voice, Every Day

Some people don't simply live in nature. They learn to belong to it.
The Naturalist · Simplicity · Living by Nature's Rhythm
After years living at the constant pace of Barcelona, Benito returned to his small village in Castilla–La Mancha, where fewer than 350 people call home. Surrounded by forests, farmland, and rolling hills, he chose a life shaped not by schedules, but by the changing seasons.
When I met Benito, I quickly realized he was far more than a gardener. He grows much of his own food, keeps chickens and ducks, cooks from what he harvests, and knows every path, spring, and hillside surrounding the village. By day, he shares that knowledge with visitors. Afterwards, he returns to the garden, where another day's work is always waiting.
Photographing Benito meant following him through his greenhouse, into his kitchen, across woodland trails with his German Shepherd, and to the natural spring where he often pauses. Each place revealed the same quiet philosophy: live simply, care for the land, and take time to notice the world around you.
Watching him, I realized that nature wasn't simply where he lived. It was how he lived.
Spending time with Benito reminded me that fulfillment isn't always found in discovering somewhere new. Sometimes it begins by returning to a place that has been waiting for you all along. In a world that often celebrates speed and constant change, Benito showed me another way of living—one measured by the seasons, the harvest, and the quiet satisfaction of knowing the land beneath your feet.

Looking Closer
Across many rural regions of Spain, people still maintain small family gardens, raise animals, and preserve a close relationship with the land. Although modern life has drawn many younger generations to the cities, villages like Benito's continue to reflect traditions of self-sufficiency, seasonal living, and a deep knowledge of the surrounding landscape.
